Riddle me this on this grill

I know this is a tender subject for some, so I won't delve too deeply...but to me, the GrillGrates are the Great Equalizer here. The "flavorizing" surface is right below the cooking surface so the effect is intensified, the searing capabilities are well beyond what I would ever need, and any flareups are kept well away from the cooking surface.
I have mentioned before that I think GrillGrates make more sense with a 5-bar grill vs. a 13-bar one. Although controversial, they do even out heat, and they do have the effect you describe.

I am hoping to make a personal use Silver A 2-burner that needs grates. I am having a hard time not wanting GrillGrates for it. Seems like they would be perfect for a grill with only 2 burners (and a single row of flavorizer bars) where evenness might be an issue.

Here are some pics of the grill. Oh and btw, I was disappointed it was a 5 bar. Pulls 33k btu. Was really hoping it was an original Gen 1 redhead.

Recently did a fairly deep clean on my 2000. Went back to the 13 bar setup from the custom 5 bar setup. Watching for performance differences. Though, I should have tried both ways AFTER the cleaning. I had let it go for far too long and my burners were so corroded/dirty some ports were totally clogged shut LOL.
So I can't say right now if I am finding any advantage of one setup over the other. Though my situation is different as in 5 bar configuration I have VERY tall and VERY heavy custom 300 grade stainless bars. Though my 13 bar set was made by the same man with same material. I did some steaks on it recently and was very pleased

Did some Genesis 1000’s come in a 5 bar set up and others in 13? I recently picked up this Genesis and thought it would have 13, but it has 5 flavorizer bars. Was it just missing the 8 smaller ones or perhaps came that way?

Yes, I have found several grills where the top row of bars was missing. They all would have had 13 from the factory.

I picked up a 13-bar once that had 5 very tall stainless bars in place of the lower sized 13 originals. Seemed like they were specifically made to replace the double row of bars.

I guess the top row of 8 get cruddy and people chuck em and just grill on with 5. Not sure if Weber sells just the 5...would be 23.5” long. My remaining 5 are solid so I am good for now...unless I pursue getting just the 8 little ones. Anyone have 8 little ones to sell or suggest where I can get them without buying all 13 new?

I am guessing the five extra tall 23.5” ones I have were an aftermarket product. Upgrade to stainless and save $ by going from 13 small bars to 5 tall ones. I have never seen them again, but I think Larry mentioned them a while back.

Dave Santana (RCPlanebuyer) will sell however many you need, but with shipping it may end up costing more than a complete aftermarket set.

I think I have some used but still usable ones, but the shipping cost would probably drive you back to buying a new aftermarket set on Amazon.
