Rib Rack

Bought me a rib rack that will hold several upright on the grill. I haven't used one before so my question is what side does everyone like to start with down towards the grate ? And do you still flip them like I do when laying directly on grate and if so how often ?:blackkettle::wsm22:

When I use one in the WSM, I just put the ribs in it & that's it. Curved side of the ribs facing down.

X2. I just put the thick edge facing down and cook away. I don't turn them....too much chance of dropping them on the ground ! :p
Seriously , I feel like they get heat on both sides at once when they're in the rack so flipping seems unnecessary.

I always use two rib racks at once on my WSM's (one on each grate). I leave them in the racks until I foil them. I pull the racks out when foiling and just stack the ribs in the foil on the grates. I switch ribs on the grates so the bottom ones are on the top grate and vice/versa until done. Of course, I cut each rib/rack in half before I put them in the racks. There are three halves on each grate. My ribs are much more evenly cooked than when I was trying to do whole racks of ribs.

I do this exact same thing! I haven't really paid attention to which side faces down--just kinda situate them however they fit best. The rack helps the ribs cook very evenly and the results are more consistent over time.

Spares I'll start out thick side down then flip if the color is getting darker on the bottom.
Same with BB's
PS I don't foil.:)
