Replacement cooking grate ideas for 2000 (DD) Genesis Silver B grill

Cleaning those porcelain lids with a razor scraper is one of the most satisfying tasks you can do. Particularly on the inside -- the carbon comes off in long strips. The outside I did more with 0000 steel wool and Simple Green. The lids are glass inside and out, so it is really hard to damage them.

I have the same 2000 DD grill that Chris does. Here it is after removing 20 years of grease. Close to new.

Razor scraper on the inside/outside of the lid. Then scrub the thermoset (tables, knobs, handle) with bleach. Crazy how good those work.

PS to Chris -- are you the original owner of that grill? The firebox on mine was getting a bit bowed out. About two years ago, Weber sent me a brand new firebox -- lifetime warranty on the cast aluminum parts for the original owner. So that grill will now be passed down in my will.
I am the original owner and could likely find my original receipt (I save everything ). I will have to look at mine more closely to see if there's any bowing but it's hard to imagine Weber keeping old parts in stock that long. And BTW, your Silver B looks fantastic!

For what it's worth, I always bought the cast iron grates (coated) on my Silver B and was just getting tired of them flaking off and falling apart. And they weren't cheap either. With the advice from these forums I bought some 7mm solid stainless bar grates from Amazon and love love love them! They aren't even the Qulimetal ones but they were like 35 or 40 bucks and they are great. They cook well, they can still make some char lines, and they release the food much better. They also clean up so much easier with a wire brush. Definitely has given new life to my Silver B experience.
