The GPS took us down a road through a neighborhood. This isn’t new to us, so we followed it down to where the pavement ended.

The GPS took us down this dirt/sandy road and said that it was just a short way down. Ok, until it wanted us to turn down a trail! You could fit a 4X4 down it, but a 3/4 ton truck and 38’ fifth wheel? Not a chance!!

Phil, you might want to checkout waze for navigation. You can set it to avoid unpaved roads. Just a thought. I've been using waze for along time, before it was bought by goo gull and I prefer it over the built in goo gull maps app.

Being in an EV I've noticed the tools in WAZE are not all that great for us EV owners. Oddly Google Maps has great tools for EV but not in the mobile version of the app only on computer. Go figure. So I have to rely on other apps specifically geared to EVs. Which adds another layer of complexity unless you have a Tesla which has the app perfectly blended into the vehicle.

This was our day today

We hit some rough roads on I95 crossing into NY from CT today and it knocked my 7 pin plug loose! There was no shoulder there, so I took the next exit to reinsert the plug. Once I did that, it wanted me to do a U-turn that I couldn’t have made in one shot if I DIDN’T have a fifth wheel hooked up!

Instead of having us go a short way and turning around, it took us through Yonkers!! WITAH!?!?

That lovely detour added almost 2 hours to our travels today. But that’s not the worst!!

We got off of the interstate in NJ and were heading to the campground. The GPS took us down a road through a neighborhood. This isn’t new to us, so we followed it down to where the pavement ended.

So we kept going. I was WAY too tired and aggravated to even attempt backing up 1/2 a mile!

Things were going ok(I won’t use the term fine), until the road narrowed right after a curve! There was also a tree leaning over that I didn’t notice until it forcibly removed our awning!!

I got out, and after looking, took the arms off as best as I could. I also used MANY words that are NOT acceptable on this forum!! I’ll go back tomorrow and pick the pieces up

Also tomorrow morning, I’ll get up on the roof and inspect that, as well as remove the rest of the awning arms. I’ll also add some sealant to where the screws ripped out of the side

I’ve tried Waze before and wasn’t impressed with it
The app I use for RV travel has an RV GPS that you put in your rig and it’ll figure in your height, length and weight for your route
I found out over on Facebook that there are further settings that you can set up. One of which is “no unpaved roads”!
That’s checked now

Amazing what you find on Facebook. As some know and a few have actually laid eyes on I have a Toyota BZ4x fully electric car. Well I found on FB a BZ4x owner's group and there I found a workaround to be able to charge it at Tesla Supercharger stations (even though not officially compatible). Well I bought an adapter, it came today, I'd depleted the battery pretty good yesterday running it into O'Hare a close to 160 mile round trip for me. So rather than charge it at home last night I stopped at a Tesla Supercharger when I was done with a PT appointment. And it WORKED! The car just became 100% more versatile for me

We stayed a couple days in NJ and saw my dad and his wife. Other than the traveling back and forth, it was good to rest after the mishaps of trying to get there!
We packed up this morning and continued south. We’re in MD tonight, VA tomorrow, and Sunday and Monday in TN before a long week in NE Georgia with friends
Part of traveling is checking your rig whenever you stop- fuel, food or potty stops for our senior pups. We stopped at good old Cracker Barrel for lunch and as we were walking back,with the pups share, I noticed something missing from our cargo rack on the back of our camper. My JJ was gone! The lid and handle were there, as well as the ratchet strap. But the rest of it was gone!
Pammi has already said that I can get another. AND more ratchet straps!

When I was off-roading, I ran across more an a few people who refused to used straps, claiming that they always loosened up. I trailered my Heep from MN to UT to AZ and back home, as well as MN to IN a couple of times, and never on the trips did I ever have to put more than 1 click back in the tension. Okay, if I started with wet straps, that's a little more difficult. I finally figured out that they were not getting sufficient wraps on the roller axle in the ratchets. Yeah, if you don't have enough friction there, they will loosen. I always make it a point to get 2 wraps preferably on that axle.

27 year old birch. Estimates were 800 to 1,000 to remove the stump.



Pressure wash to expose roots then cut the roots with a Sawzall.




My plan was to pull it over using a tow strap on the truck but I gave it a good push and it went over.



Not bad for two hours work.

I had to go back to the top of the thread to find what thread this was posted to. At first I thought it was the Humor Thread, but it wasn't funny. Then I thought maybe it was the You Know You're Getting Old When... thread, but nope, not that one either. Ah, finally, the Random Thoughts/Off Topic/Last Post Wins thread, makes perfect sense now. A genius method for removing an old tree stump...I would never have thought of pressure washing to expose the roots. This is one of those I Was Today Years Old When I Learned... moments. Thanks, Dan!

Yeah I'll be sore tomorrow. I cut through a few of the smaller roots with my Ryobi cordless saw. The larger ones were much more dense and after going through two batteries I decided it was time for the 12 amp Milwaukee sawzall. I almost got out the chainsaw but I didn't want to destroy the chain.
