Welding, fireplace, heavy leather gloves are fine for really hot stuff like racks, coals, etc but can be ungainly for moving food and are tough to clean afterwards. Standard oven mitts usually work fine for good grates/oven racks.
I've been using this type of glove made by Best. The model is called Black Knight. You can get them in different gauntlet lengths.
These are often the ones that are sold by BBQ places with their name on them (BBQ Guru, etc).
The thing I like about them are that they have a nice liner inside (not too heavy) and they have a nice textured/grainy surface to them which makes them great for food handling.
I've been using them for 7 or eight years. To the point that I bought a dozen 10 inch from an online supplier and they ended up costing around $3 a pair including shipping.
You often see these in hardware stores as well.

I use mine indoor and out. Great for lifting turkeys and roasts out of the pan. Pulling pork butt, carving poultry etc. And they clean off really well. They stand up nicely to hot foods and last a long time.
Don't use them for handling hot grates - use the leather gloves for that. Occasional is fine (I do), but they will stiffen and crack over time. Depends on how long you are holding on to the food grate.
Just make sure to get the ones with the textured (not smooth) grip as they come in both styles in 10, 12, 14 inch.
Do some searches on Best Black Knight and you'll find all kind of options.
