Probably the reason.......

I have a stainless hinge on my 22-in kettle. I went outside and found that my wife had apparently left the lid up after cooking the other night and the wind had blown the kettle over.

Probably the reason that Weber doesn't include such a thing.. heads up. Never leave it unattended with the lid up and hot coals if you got a hinge

Their newest kettle does/did have a hinge. The Master Touch Deluxe or whatever it was called. It hasn’t been on their website for a bit, guess it didn’t sell well or something?

I personally can’t fathom a need for a hinge on a kettle but that’s me.

as soon as I take the food off the vents get closed and lid put down....

I lived in an area where lots of storms came through, windy quite often....I had a performer and 22" kettle on the patio, they took winds up to 60mph without blowing over.....then came some severe stuff with 80mph and the three legged kettle went for a ride across the yard...surprisingly the performer didnt move but I think due to the wind direction and the charcoal bin being full helped weigh it down more....I started putting bricks inside the kettle during storms so it wouldnt tip over

We had flat line wind a few years ago that took the lid off my performer and dented the life out of it.
Obviously, not warranted so That was $60.00 fair enough but they sent a stock lid with the old inner hook so, it isn’t the right one but, it does work. I have a hinge on my 18 on the “outboard” end of the set up. Works very well but, yes, you do need to remember to shut it all the way. That reminds me, I need to dump ash catchers!
