But I heard that the Gen 1s have issues and only original owners qualify for upgrades. How can I tell if it is a Gen1 or Gen2?Pounce on that baby, Joe! You will kick yourself later if you don't.![]()
Even if it’s already registered? I don’t think so.IT DOES NOT MATTER. BUY IT!!!
You can figure all that out later. Weber will send you the new parts.
Shine your flashlight down the square hole in the bottom of the pellet hopper. If the pellet chute in there is black then it is Gen 2. If silver then Gen 1. The serial number is inside the hopper lid. If he hasn’t used it maybe he didn’t register it. I would buy that thing in a heartbeat. Good luck.I'll try to make an appointment to see it. I really would like to know if there is a way to physically tell by code or part if it is a Gen1 or 2.
The EX4 Gen 2 part number is 22510201 according to Weber's site. Someone correct me but didn't Gen 1 use a different part number, possibly 22510001? There should be a label on the smoker that references the part number. How can I tell if it is a Gen1 or Gen2?
I have an appointment to see it. Is it possible to tell by the shoot? A gen 1 is straight and a gen 2 is more of a zig zag? I'm guessing by all the encouragement that you love them? I was going to just be happy with my Q, kettle, and WSM18 ;-)Shine your flashlight down the square hole in the bottom of the pellet hopper. If the pellet chute in there is black then it is Gen 2. Joe, the easiest way for someone who hasn't seen one is to look at the color of the chute. Yes, the new chute is a straighter path to the auger tube. Here's a pic of the new auger assembly. The old tube was black but the silver colored chute was not welded to the tube. It is now and the chute is black.. Does that help?I have an appointment to see it. Is it possible to tell by the shoot? Yes that is the model # and I actually got it for $450 and I am going back as he found a bag of pellets for me.As previously stated On the underside of the Hopper Lid the Model # is shown. 22510201 is the Second Gen. You would not regret acquiring the Unit. I love mine. At $500 it's Robbery
Dude Keep it. Its a great Pit and you Scored less than 1/2 price. The Grillmaster Blend Pellets from Weber are nice.So I got the EX4! I believe it to be the Gen2 by the hopper slide. I got it home and installed some updates. Now I am trying to decide to flip or keep. I just got my first WSM18 last week and only got one cook in. I was looking forward to some more charcoal fun. The one thing this can't do is rotisserie and that is sort of a deal breaker as a one grill to rule them all sort of thing. Has anyone thought about cutting some holes in it for a rotisserie? The other is electric. I would have to keep this on the garage porch and run an extension cord to it every time I wanted to use it. Not a big problem as I do the same for my rotisserie. I suppose I could use it for a while then sell it later? Too many grills and so little play time. What pellets do you recommend?
Thanks for all the encouragement to spend money.
