Finished with assembling my Heatermeter. I hooked it up and programmed it. I can access it through the computer. but I can not get it to enable the wifi.

Thanks,
Ramiro

In HM Config/NETWORK/WIFI you should see your "radio" (wifi adapter) listed there? Click SCAN to locate and connect to your WiFi... Or provide more details about what hardware you have, what rPi, what wifi adapter etc... Also make sure your wireless router is allowing the connection....

...and I'm just getting used to this cause it's new, when a fresh HM boots up the first time the WiFi is set to Access Point Mode... So if you use a wifi enabled device like a tablet, laptop etc and scan for available WiFi networks and see HEATERMETER you can connect to it directly and load the main HeaterMeter page. From there you can go to the Config and change your wifi to client mode to connect to a home wifi network...

I am using a raspberry pi b . network adapter is the Edimax EW-7811Un. As soon as I unplug the Ethernet cable to have the wifi access it disconnects.

Ralph I did the scan. Connected to my wifi with my password. It shows supposedly im connected to my wifi. then for no apparent reason it disconnects.

Yes I try to connect to the wirless IP. An d it wont do anything. I lose connection to the Heatermeter when I disconnect the lan cable. I am powering the Heatermeter through the USB hooked through the raspberry PI board.

Well, that statement is why I asked that question about the IP... After you connect to WiFI and remove the LAN cable did you reboot with the LAN cable removed...Do you see any IP appear on the HM screen a bit after you power it up?

are you connecting from a computer or device that is connected via WIFI or over wired network that might be on the other side of the WiFI firewall? Would need to forward Port 80 to the HM WiFi IP to get access from outside....

There's no port to configure when configuring wifi. Port 80 ( http ) is what the webserver on the heatermeter listens on.

oh ok. just cant seem to figure this wifi issue. Ive tried everything. I reboot and all and the it show the wifi is up but availability is timeout

When you Scan for your network and you connect to it and then you hit the Save button, look up in the top right corner of the window if you see any in red saying something like 13 unsaved changes or whatever it says, click on it and then on that page click on save and apply button.

Also, your HM will show a IP address on its LCD screen once it connects to your router, if you do not see that, then you are not connected. If you look at the Wifi Adapter , it will blink very rapidly for a second and then repeat, when its connected.

What is the brand of SD card you are using? Some cards seem to have more issues then others. Whats good theough that the cheap 4g Sandisk SD cards seem to work great, while the better quality sandisak I have tried have had problems with saving the settings

what are you connecting with?

If you are trying to connect to it with your phone, you have to be connected to the Router via Wifi. If you are on your phones Data then you wont be able to connect to the HM unless you set up a your router ports.

Also, navigate to your routers homepage and look for where it tell you what is connected to it. Make sure you see the same IP address that you see on the LCD screen.

If you still cant connect, make sure its not your router rejecting the connection

John, Im going tp purchase a new SD card tomorrow. It does list the IP address on the LCD. I am us the Edimax EW-7811Un wifi adapter. Now I can not grt to hookup even with the Ethernet cable plugged in. Im using a sandisk 256mb sd card. The light on the wifi adapter keeps blinking.

if you see the IP then you are connecting. When you use the cable you need to connect to the Rpi with 192.168.201.1. You may need to change your computer to the same subnet like 192.168.201.2
