Actually...... there's a few folks who've used Bryan Mayland's HeaterMeter controller (support forum hosted here, thanks @Chris Allingham) to build their own out of a Weber kettle. This is a kettle grill with a mounted controller with a fan & air shutter. This can take a lot of headache & worrying out of a kettle cook.
I've seen these a few times at Home Depot. This exact model was on display at the Home Depot on Garland Rd in Dallas just before the Christmas ramp up. It was on sale for $149.99 at the time, so my wife and I stopped to check it out. It seemed very cheaply made. Very flimsy feeling and it just didn't seem like a quality cooker.
The hinge seemed especially weak for the weight of the hood and it was bent sideways and slightly twisted when we saw it.
Also, something about the way it's mounted, it feels really bulky and small at the same time. It's hard to explain, but that's the impression it made on me. My wife offered to buy me one and I hard declined.
Edit: Admittedly, a lot of the issues may have been from improper assembly and over exposure to careless hands.
