My summit 450

So.. this came to be mine in a grill horse trade if you will. I had purchased summit 650 NG thinking it would be easy to convert. After help from you folks I decided against it. I put it for sale on CL hoping to never see it again. A gentleman emailed me about trading for a summit 450 which he had both a NG and LP manifold factory from weber. We met up and swapped. After disassemble and cleaning, a few new parts, i swapped back to LP she came out pretty good!!

I am already looking for my next project!! Thanks you all for the help!!

Looks really nice! (y)

I probably have a reputation for my disdain for the current, bloated 3rd generation Summits:summits650:😠, but I LOVE those 1st gen ones!

You are an inspiration to me since I have a Summit 450 identical to the one you got waiting in the wings for a clean-up and then to be put into service as my daily driver - at least when my other waiting project, a 2-burner Skyline, isn't large enough:2004genesissilvera:.😎

I was able to purchase mine from Larry here on the board. I was honored that he would let me be the buyer of a grill he has had for years. It is actually the source of many comments in threads about Weber not following through on its warranty of these grills. They are wonderful and have such a unique, classy appearance. But, their weakness is the firebox - especially the front panel - which is very prone to rust-through. Before I can start using mine, I have to come up with a fix for this problem.

Have you looked carefully at your firebox?

Grab a cocktail.. :)
Give me a sec, getting comfortable so I can read that! :)

Aaron - congrats on the trade and acquisition of a Summit 450. I have one too, but have not cooked on it yet. Look forward to doing that in the spring.

If the cook box panels are in good shape, you got one nice grill there. Unless you grill for big get togethers, the 650 is big time over kill.

Love the looks of the 450. Those large shelves on the front, I dig the look of them. If I were to get a summit it would be one of them

Here is my 450. Noticed ours are a little different. You have a side burner on the right. Great score!

They truly are wonderful grills. Loved mine cooked extremely well (except useless for rotisserie) and of course the issue with the fire box. I am hoping Jon can make my old grill like the Phoenix (rising from the ashes of corrosion) :) They look larger than they are oddly they're only the size of an older 1st or 2nd gen Genesis.

I agree.. i have a genius 1000. Same size cooking surface, it looks way smaller when you look at them side to side.

One question i do have. I need new thermometer and i cant seem to find one that is the same. It has a longer probe that goes in the hood. Are they available or a similar one ?

I ended up adapting a different later model thermometer as mine was fubar as well. Though the newer one I installed (not a removable type) never was as responsive or accurate as the old one. Never cared though as it was only an indicator not a true measurement. And hell my Wolf dos not even have one and I have lived with that just fine
