Mother's Day Yardbird

For Mother's day I traditionally like to have a small cookout and invite my Mother and Mother in Law. I decided to cook some chicken with some Alabama White Sauce. My wife said I had to make a side and she said nope it can't be what I call a "side meat."

Kept the Franklin at about 275 to 300 with oak.

This was my side. German potato salad from Robb Walsh's Legends of Texas Barbecue Cook Book. My wife tasted it and add a slash more cider vinegar and red wine vinegar.

I made some Alabama White Sauce from a Chris Lilly's Fire and Smoke book.

Finished chicken. These were big birds and this was way too much. I still have a chicken half in the fridge.

Doused in the white sauce. Sorry I messed up and had no plated pic.

Yes it is all looking great! Cooker to plate!

German potato salad.... hmm. And a mate who can take charge and spice it up. White sauce is known but never seen up here. May have a recipe to try.
How heavy were those birds? The costco dinos here are nearly 5 pounds after roasting

I have gotten to really like Alabama white sauce. It is about the only way I will cook chicken anymore. Hell, I will drink that stuff while lounging in my hammock.
