Mold in WSM

That's interesting. I've never gotten a mold problem but it rarely rains in CA and as a matter of fact, we're in a drought. On top of that, I always clean it right away and store it in the garage for safe keeping. If I had to choose, I'd keep all of my smokers babied in the garage before my actual car. Luckily, there's room for both.

In the absence of mold, I don't clean the precious walls inside much.

Formula for mold:

1 part dampness +
1 park darkness +
1 part food particles +
1 part lack of airflow =
MOLD

I live in Seattle and mold grows EVERYWHERE, especially while waiting for a walk light downtown in mid-December.......

Seriously, the Weber covers basically suck. That's part of the problem. So...

1. Go onto Amazon and look for a nice canvas-type cover such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000HCNEVI/tvwb-20

2. After each smoke, empty, clean and dry the water pan (or stop using water all together)

3. Clean all racks

4. Open all vents

5. Cover the WSM

6. Place WSM is a shed, garage or covered area

7. Use the WSM frequently!

If you get some mold growing, simply wipe/scrape it off and run a couple chimneys full of fully lit charcoal. The heat will kill the mold.

BTW: 99% of all molds are basically harmless. It's only the toxic black mold that can be a bit dicey. But.... a WSM is not the type of environment black mold can grow, so don't sweat the mold. Just clean it off and load up the ribs and butts!
