Minion Method + Lump Charcoal Rules

I fired up my WSM with the minion method and lump charcoal from Costco on Thurs. nite at 7:00 pm. Started 2 pork butts & a brisket. Got to 225 degrees and held through the night. At 8:30 am in the morning food was perfect and temp was still 218, even with a rain shower. Decided to smoke 3 racks of babybacks on same coals. Didn't add any, just stirred the coals before I put ribs on. 6 1/2 hrs later my ribs were perfect and the temp was holding at 233. This is only my 2nd smoke on the WSM. Wow!! Either this thing's incredible or lump charcoal is as good as advertised... OR both

What kind of lump charcoal were you able to purchase at Costco, and in what city/state? Costco never has lump where I live.

Regards,
Chris

Both!

But I think more of the credit needs to go to the WSM as it will hold temp and cook long with many brands of charcoal - lump and briquettes.

Chris - I bet he got some of the lump from The Original Charcoal Company (same company that sells Rancher). I got about 10 bags from there (through a friend because I don't have a Costco membership).

The Original Charcoal Company brand. Two 10 pound bags came shrink wrapped together.

Chris,

Indianapolis In. The Original Charcoal Company was the name on the bag, and they were two 10 lb bags for $12.

I went with the two 21.5 lb bags for $13.50 though...Those prices were this mornign at Costco in Castletonl.

I will buy up the lump when I get my DigiQ.
