I bought a KIZEN Digital Meat Thermometer with Probe off amazon in December for under 15 bucks. and while it is certainly better then nothing, it is extremely slow. Whats the best value out there that wont brake the bank.

Another vote for Thermoworks !
We're talking food safety here, not just something to show a temperature....

I'm very happy with my thermapen classic and have had it since 2017, and I bought a thermapen one on black friday.

after 4 years, my thermapen classic needed to be dismantled, cleaned and re-lubed. I didn't want to risk being without one so I splurged on black friday and bought the termapen-one.

the thermapen one is faster than the classic, but both are great. The dismantle, clean, lube and re-assembly of the classic went well and now I have two.

There are some that are better than the cheepest, but IMO the thermapen is worth having.

The classic ( at full price today) is the same price as the therma-pen one (on sale today).

If you do buy from Thermoworks, wait for at least a 20% off sale. They come and go fairly often.

That one was on my radar, I also saw one by blackstone that had good reviews online, but now personal experiences with it under 100 would be good ideal would be in 50-75 range
Amazon seems to push the ThermoPro line, no thermoworks or blackstones there

At 84 bucks i think the leading contender is the thermopen1. but i will give it a day to see if any other contenders pop up here

I have two Thermoworks instant read and one Thermo Pro.
Thermo Pro works fine for the price. Thermoworks only sells off it's site, too many knock offs on Amazon.

idk when their father's day sale ends. 20% is a good value. 25% off is the best sale i've seen them run. if you sign up for their emails, you'll be in the know on all sales and deals. act accordingly on this sale if it makes sense to you. i am 100% satisfied with my two (2) thermoworks products. they're essential and critical tools that just work, every time.

This is an example of a tool where there are few good substitutes. I highly recommend the Thermapen from Thermoworks. It is the one to get if there is any way you can possibly swing it. It is very fast and very accurate, useful for far more than only the grill. Older versions of the Thermapen are still being sold. They are fast and accurate and can save a few dollars.

I looked at Thermoworks website and saw their Dash model. The Dash offers better than 1 degree F (0.5 C) accuracy and a 3-4 second measurement speed for $32. I have never seen one in person, although I have seen the similar "Thermopop." You may wish for the 1-2 second measurement speed of a Thermapen, especially when you use it over a hot grill. Still, the Dash may be "good enough" at a lower price:

To be clear, we have owned a basic Thermapen for years. It is fast, accurate, and durable - a quality product. I highly recommend a genuine Thermapen. You can pry ours from my cold dead hands. If you must have something right now on a budget, consider a Dash. It may be suitable at a lower cost. I would rather save my pennies and do without to save up for a Thermapen, rather than buy something else.

Bad people sell inferior counterfeit Thermoworks products, so be sure you are buying from an authorized Thermoworks seller. Amazon is NOT an authorized seller. See:

Thermoworks sale ends today. I got the Thermoworks Dash a few months ago on sale, it's $31.20 right now. I have been very happy with it. And I have used the Super-Fast RT301WA digital pocket thermometer ($29.00) for quite a few years and is very good also. The super fast RT301WA can be calibrated also. I put the RT301WA in the R/V when I got the Dash.

I have a couple from Taylor that I get from Publix. One is a fold out style and the other is the traditional straight one. They aren’t the fastest instant reads in the world but they work good and not too expensive, and most important to me they are convenient to buy. I’ve never used a Thermapen before, I’m sure if I did I’d never buy Taylor again. :)
