Lowe's Performer Grills difference?

Lowes has two models of performer's. One is on sale now for $198.00 with a 397 square inch cooking surface and the other one is $329.00 with a 363 square inch cooking area. Different model numbers and item numbers from Lowe's online. I'm looking to buy a performer but can't find one local yet.

I'm curious about the difference in the square inches of cooking area. Isn't the size of a 22.5" round cooking grate approximately 397 inches? So, how would the size of two 22.5" grills be different??

Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm pretty sure Pie, errr, Pi, is invloved.

Aren't the Weber grill/WSM sizes to the outside edges of the kettles, and the grates are actually smaller?
It's too darn cold, and snow covered for me to go out and measure.

Maybe Weber realized that the old square inch size given was for the outside measurements, not the actual cooking grate size.

More likely some lawyer sued for not getting the sq. inches that he/she was supposed to get

I hate to ask a dumb question, but are you sure that they are both Webers. The 22 1/2" grate has an area of 397 square inches. A 363 square inch grate would be approximately 21 1/2" in diameter. As far as I know, Weber didn't change the size of the cooking area. They just updated the look of the Performer.
 
Hey,Frank,..yes they're both Weber performers ...and they use the same grate, just different numbers for whatever reason ..Lowes here has em sittin side by side...I really dig the changes

Bought a Performer at Lowe's last week for $198. The code on the lid vent is "DE" (2009) but the serial number on the Charcoal Grill Owners Guide is prefaced with "AD" (2010). Just need to keep this in mind if I ever call for parts and need something that is different between the 2009 and 2010 models.
 
Got the 09 Performer at Lowe's for $198. It was the floor model so I also got another 10% off. Out the door for about $180+tax.

Very Pleased.

Did you email them on the disparity between the code on the vent and the prefix of the serial number? If they said there's no difference I'm curious on how they explain the different thermometer (in the lid on the newer one vs. in the handle on the older one)?
 
hmm i am curious about this too. i looked at lowes and put the $198 version in my cart. if its the same as the 2010 except the aesthetics, but someone mentioned the thermometer on the 198 model is on the handle, not the lid.

russel and tom, does it have the gas start, grate with side openings, charcoal baskets, themometer etc.? i just want to make sure before i make the order online.

Lowes seems to have recognized their pricing error, the number you reference as being $198.00 is now $329.00 on their web site.

Not anymore, the Lowes number you reference as 297987 is now $329.00, obviously a mistake they have caught.

i have it in my cart at this moment and its $198. should i pull the trigger asap. i just want to know if this is the famous performer with all the trimmings
 
Pull the trigger, I just brought it up and it now says price unavailable, 10 minutes ago it showed as $329.00. apparantly they have realized their pricing error.
 
Lowes is clearing out the 2009 Performers @ $198 and also selling 2010 models @ $329 ... Lowes, here, has em sitting side by side..the 2010 has darker handles and a darker table, the wheels have been updated and, yes the thermometer in the lid has been changed to the WSM style...identical capability as the 2009
