Low profile temperature probe port

I added a low profile temperature probe port. This is the same style I added on my Mini WSM.

Some people are silicone grommet people, some prefer using cable glands, others like to notch their bowl.

I am a nipple person. (lamp nipple, that is) ;)
Made with brass lighting fixture parts found at most local hardware stores.
  • 1/8-IP lamp Nipple need the 1/2" size-
  • 2 Brass Plated hex nuts
  • 1/8-IP Brass Caps (2-Pack)
  • drilled 7/16 hole.
I originally was going to use a cable gland. However I felt like it would stick out too far and not be as low profile or clean of a look. The silicone grommet idea would require me drilling a bigger hole. Notching the bowl lip wasn't something I wanted to do.
So I settled on the same solution used on my Smokey Joe Mini WSM.
It's low profile and can fit 2 probe wires, (fed in one at a time), more than enough for what I would need.

I did have to remove the kettle bowl from the Weber Performer cart to get a better drilling angle. I will also be doing this on my Crimson Performer 22".

The advantage of the notch is that you can lift the grate out of the smoker without first removing the ambient and meat probes.
