Looking for Red Oak

Hi all,

I am from California, transplanted to Colorado now.

Anyone in Colorado, off the top of your head, know of a vendor I can drive to and buy, lets saw, 25-50 pounds of Red Oak fire wood. I live near Boulder, Colorado.

Home Depot and Lowes both sell red oak; in finished/cut boards... but that stuff is so very pricey, won't buy that stuff just to burn! I'd like to avoid any shipping costs to, so no need to link me to a web vendor.

I'd like to try to reproduce some of that central cali Q with my favorite piece of beef, Tri Tip.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Look in the Yellow Pages for furniture shops and supply houses for woodworkers. They might have scraps that you can pick up for very little or maybe even free; there used to be a woodworker shop down the road from my office and every so often they'd set out a barrel filled with hardwood pieces. Granted, you're unlikely to get as much oak as you wood from a firewood vendor but it might be better than nothing.
