Lighting using weed burner

I am going to try using my weed burner to light my pit again today. Last time I tried I over lit the coals and the temps ran away on me. I was thinking of just lighting the center coals as though i were using the coffee can method.
I have a full charcoal ring and am going to use water in the pan to smoke some beef ribs.
How do you guys use your weed burner to start the coals?

I use a high output propane torch. I light the pile in 2 places and let it come up to temperature slowly.

Me too but at the end of the day it all about controlling the dampers. I've poured more lit coals than I should have but then I just damper down and hold it back a bit.

I fill my charcoal ring and then blast the middle of the charcoal for 30 seconds. Gets me right at 225.

I always light my lump with a weed burner. 1 spot in the middle for low´n´slow.(20-30sec)

3 spots when im grilling(1 min).

Always my chimney when using briq´s.

I use my burner about 1 minute in the middle of 2 chimneys full in my 22 for the 275-300 high heat method. Same for my 26 kettle but that's 1 minute per side when set up for indirect.
