In The Doghouse - Steelhead & Crab

Clint

TVWBB Olympian
I'm having a hard time differentiating steelhead from salmon for some reason....

Anyway, today is a "holiday" in Utah called Pie & Beer Day (pioneer). I planned on working half a day & visiting a friend in the hospital today, and that's what I did.

I was picking up some stuff @ the grocery store for my bud (ex employee from FL & MA), I got him some sardines (yuck), kippered snacks (yum), summer sausage, cheeses, crystal light (yuck) etc. He's diabetic, just had a quad bypass, & is complaining of losing too much weight (he is). While at the store my other buddy called & said he'd exhausted all his options and asked if I could watch his dog. I said yes without halfway regretting it for at least a couple of hours... I can't go camp / trail ride, but I can trail ride or go to the mx track that's only 15 miles away so quit complaining already!

I even picked up a couple tubes of tennis balls & a new long board @ the store on the way home :) (((Good Day)))

Here's George - he's an ~8 year old St Bernard....I've known him since he was a pup, and he was even nice enough to digest one of my books a few years ago!

Here's the crab (about a pound), and some of my leftover jerk steelhead:

Me next to the gasser with all this seafood on it, & roxy in the back (wearing my new shirt):

And the money shot - there's a nice salad with my name on it in case I get hungry later.

If you get hungry enough to eat salad, you're doing it wrong ;)

And if you're drinking it straight, we need to get you some better tequila!

Sounds like a busy day Clint! At least George is there for you at the end of a long one. Bet the crab and leftover steelhead were good!

I totally understand your opinion on the tequila, but I've tried several different varieties and Cuervo is what tequlia is, to me. I'll drink 1800, but patron... eh. I don't remember cabo wabo, and I really don't care about the others I've tried :)

Yes, I'm drinking it straight, or with 3 oz tequila, 3 squeezed limes, simple sugar, & ice. I haven't had a teq bloody mary yet, but it's only 6:11 pm :)

We're about to see if he can swim. Roxy won't.

The crab was excellent! So was the Steelhead! I didn't have any butter, I just ate it plain out of the shell. I picked it up yesterday & called today to verify it was already cooked, I just steamed / reheated it in foil for about 10-12 minutes, & reheated the steelhead for ~5-7 minutes.

Q: what's the best tequila?
A: whichever one you like to drink!

I've tasted lots. Petron is ok, but not worth the price. Milagro is moderately priced, and really very good.

If I'm going to drink it straight, I'll go with Cabo Wabo anejo. I've tasted much more expensive tequilas that weren't as good, and it's not crazy expensive (around $45-$50 locally).

Cuervo actually makes some good tequila, but it's as expensive as the Cabo or more, but it's not better, IMHO.

In any event, cheers!

BTW, tequila makes an excellent Bloody Mary, as does Bourbon. I'm not a vodka fan ;)

Thanks David (?) I'll try Cabo Wabo anejo next time - my friend who was with me yesterday said it was good but I was quick with the dismissal ("cuervo is teq to me :)").

Cheers :)

edit:>>> I haven't tried bourbon in a bloody mary yet but now I will. I was happy to be served a whiskey/apple juice after bowling the other night...... I thought I was the only person to try that.

Heh... never heard of whiskey and apple juice! I prefer whiskey, sweet vermouth and dry vermouth, with a piece of orange peel :D Or, just whiskey! I have a few really nice bourbons and Irish whiskeys that are awesome neat.

Almost sounds like a Manhattan to me, my Aunt loved them.

Clint, that was some really nice things you did for your friends. The crab and fish looks good too.
About the Saint swimming if he is anything like my Saint as soon as mine she got her fur soaked she became a submarine. Wasn't fun getting a 150 pound water logged dog out of the pool.
