Yesterday will cooking I was sitting and just looking at the performer. When I notice black stuff on the bowl then got closet and noticed it was chipping. I got closer and the chips were on the floor. I apologize for the dirty floor but this tree at home drop something that stains it...that's another thing I hate... Back to weber..check the pics out. You guys think weber will cover this?

Tony; do you think this might be from too high heat? I haven't had this problem and I seem to always bank coals on one side of the Weber. Keep us posted as to what Weber says.

Maybe??
But I dont think 1 chimney full banked to one side should do the chipping...Im calling right now.

Just spoke to them. They asked for pics and will call me back to tell me what they are going to do.

I agree with you. At least with my experience.... I'm partial to always banking my coals to one side and have never had an issue. Also, I never heard of this being a problem until I saw some others here at this forum saying they did as George just mentioned. Looking forward to what Weber says and if they do anything for you.

Weber replaced my blue bowl after chipping like that also. From now on, I'll only bank on the black kettle and use the baskets on the colored kettles.

Yep, just had this EXACT thing happen with my Performer bowl. I even posted similar pictures here about 3 months ago or so. It happens from continually banking your coals to one side. I sent Weber pic's and they sent out replacement bowl and damper system in like 3 days. Awesome 10 year warranty from Weber !!

To keep this from always happening, I now use the charcoal baskets over the propane assist tube. Yea, its taken some adjustments but I am not replacing the bowl every few years.

So I sent the pictures in and 15 min later I got a response that they will replace the bowl. I apologize for not responding earlier. I left to Lowes to buy Weber stuff... new cover for my weber Q, pans, starter cubes...

Now Im happy because this will be resolved...Weber is the best..

Thanks Matt.
I guess I will have to bank my charcoal on different spots to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks for the update Tony and thanks for the information from everyone else. This is the reason I purchased a 3 leg off of CL. I don't want to do really hot cooks in my performer such as using the pizzakettle.

Thanks Tony; I have a black performer and will start looking at the bottom bowl - never have checked it. Maybe this is more endemic with other colors?

I am glad to hear it was all taken care of and Weber's policies keep their reputation in tact. My younger brother asked me why I buy all Weber. He has to ask ...so he'll never understand.

If you continue to bank, even in a rotation, there's no guarantee this won't happen again. What if Weber doesn't cover your next one?
What you need is a junked 22" you can cut apart. That way you can take a piece of the old bowl and line your good bowl where you bank the charcoal.
IE: double wall the area you dump the charcoal. I saw pics of it on the net someplace...
