I will just leave this here

The front of the cook box where the burner tubes go through tends to start rusting out on those models and it gets quite bad. As long as your grill doesn't suffer from that you may have something there.

The cook box on mine is nearly perfect. Others have reported that Weber will provide a replacement cook box under warranty if you send them picture of one that is rusted out.

I do fabrication work. I have SS sheet, tools and a welder. If worst came to worst I could rebuild my cookbox or fabricate a new one.

Re, the CI vs SS grates. Honestly it's not so much the material but the mass that does the job. I.E., the heavy SS grates Dave Santana made for my Wolf compared to the very heavy raw CI ones it had.................no difference in searing or release performance and I think with the SS ones being slightly better because they have more "mass" than old CI ones had

Yep, I can take apart a grill and put it back together again with hardly any leftover parts anymore. I'm still shooting for zero!
Good memories. I remember the days when I would tear a grill down, clean it up and then go back to put it all together and always have a part or two left over. Not so much on a B/C grill or even 1000-5000 any more, but if go off the reservation and tear apart an E3xx grill or something newer, the issue inevitably arises once again.

OK, I won't ask where this is going, but I do expect to see some pictures. I will ask: Is it high temp paint?
No. I wanted to see if I liked it prior to investing in blue caliper paint. However it will not be in direct contact with a heat source, and no, it isn't going on my van!

So, are you saying it isn't going to go back on the lid of a grill?
That is correct.

So this weekend I went back and forth with the dink that had this green one listed for $50. Looked filthy, could tell in his original post that the cookbox bolt frame piece was non-existent. I figured I would go check it out as it was close, had a dark green lid, and a grill out light handle. Tried Saturday to get there, he flaked and never sent address. Sat night we exchanged messages I told him I was free til noon Sunday, and he went ghost mode. I messaged him Sunday morning at 6:30. While I was at the hardware store at 9, he messaged me that he was free til 9:30, then wouldn't be around til 2. I get there at 9:15 and in person it looked like a total heap of :poop: and I was walking away - cookbox was torched and warped, the lid and grease tray were the only good parts. He was a total dick "what do you expect for $50" so he said he would update the listing to better show the rust. I left. Last night he updated the listing to free - and said it would be at the curb, so I messaged him and said I would come get it first thing in the morning. He saw it, no response and the address wasn't listed in the ad.

So this morning I said F it, I will drive over and take a look... while I was on my way the ad updated to sold. Dang, so I went, and in doing so happened across an area of the city that must have been doing a junk haul, and happened across another 1000 LX, a sidewinder (that had good doors for the 310 I picked up yesterday), a WeberQ cart, and a really nice cover that I took off of a charbroil. So in all, my time the guy wasted turned out in my favor :giggle: I would’ve taken the sidewinder but it wouldn’t fit with the 1000 😢

Yep. I offered him $25 two days ago after you passed on it. He never answered me. THen I saw he dropped it to FREE and I said I would come pick it up. He said OK. But then it took forever to get an address from him. So, yah, he wouldn't take the $25 offer, but instead gave it away for Free. He was too talkative when I got there to pick it up too. He wouldn't quit talking and let me leave. I think he was expecting me to offer him money for it which I wasn't going to do. Lid looks OK but the handle light is toast. Full of battery acid.

Yah, about 8pm. After he responded that I could come get it, I asked for an address and he didn't get back to me for an hour. I thought he ghosted me.

I messaged him at like 330... he saw it around 4 I think. Such an odd pickup. But you said the lid was pretty nice? I saw that Green cabinet grill is off craigslist, I wonder if he held out for the $75
