I will just leave this here

Another issue I find with a lot of socket sets is the propensity of 12 point sockets. I HATE 12 points.
Larry I messed up. I found a set that reviews well by that tool reviewer you posted but after I ordered I remembered what you said about most of these box sets having 12 point sockets. Well I accidentally ordered the wrong one with 12 points. I'm going to return it when it shows up tomorrow and order the set that comes with everything 6 point for $50 more than the other set with 12 points. I very much agree with you about the 12 point. If I ever need a 12 point I'll go buy it but I don't want to ruin my entire set for the chance I might need it.

I've been thinking about getting into the gas game for a bit and this popped up for free on marketplace.
Not sure exactly what I'm going to do with it yet. I'll get around to it someday. Going to browse the various threads on here for inspiration.
But you got it?

What did you end up going with?

I really like old school Craftsman. Black & Decker is just ruining the name now putting out cheap crap and trying to sell stuff based on the name Craftsman and what it used to mean.

It's not just Black & Decker / Craftsman though it's everything now.

I'm sure the super expensive stuff is probably still good but is it as good as it used to be?

That's a really nice set too. It looks similar to mine, but with a few more pieces and the engraved sockets are definitely an upgrade. I can barely see the markings on mine anymore, they get smaller every year😃

I think you're probably paying for the name on a lot of the expensive stuff too, although I haven't done the research. I don't think you can go wrong with one of those older, but new USA Craftsman sets. I've had mine for 25 years with no complaints.
