I will just leave this here

These two are the next projects I want to do. The Genesis 1 is a NG but it’s in remarkable shape. I may keep it NG and see what the market would present, but I’m guessing it’s not ideal.
Those are two of my favorites. I am a little skeptical of selling the small Genesis 1 as a NG grill, but I don't know how common NG hookups are where you are. If it doesn't sell, you can, of course, just swap the manifold and scrounge up a scale and scale bracket to make it a legit LP grill.

I’m not sure what it will end up being when it’s all said and done. But I’m hoping to sell it to someone for a million dollars so I can retire and focus solely on tinkering with grills 🤣

Joking aside, just put a few hours into it and sell it
I Wish I could flip older webers here. Id rather work on older grills. People here will only pay for shiny new looking grills. So I can't flip anything older than a Genesis 330. Even the 330 has to be looking like new inside and out to sell for a good price. I probably won't do anymore 330s after the ones I have. Genesis ii 2017 or newer for flips. Otherwise I'm not making money to cover my time and money spent.

See, that’s where I worry too about the NG 1. Most places that have the NG hookup around me, already have a summit, wolf, Napoleon type of grill. Two of the gold c units I have came from those neighborhoods, so I doubt there’s a market.

But I’m conflicted on converting an OG Genesis 1 to LP. I like messing around and making grills different, but that one I’m wrestling with in my head.

Now I’m smack dab in the middle of a conundrum! I wouldn’t be opposed to that.

Got pics of the project? I love pictures
Unfortunately I don't, I picked it up on Sunday and didn't take pictures and I'm at the airport heading out to Chyna for work. But this is the same grill I picked up, a nice redhead 3000. Needs some frame work and new flavorizers, I'm gonna strip it down and probably get the frame powder coated as well :) would a red frame be tacky??

Welcome to TVWBB, Wesley!

That looks like a very nice pickup. I lean toward restoring to original, but, hey, if you want to try something unique there is nothing wrong with that! Main thing is to enjoy the process and using the end results.:coolkettle:

Thanks!! I have been here 11 years lol, just don't post much haha. I like to lurk and gather information... But I figured I have got so much out of this community I should start giving back! This is my current keeper that I did 7 years ago with all the knowledge I learned here.1000001194.png

You’re tugging at my heart strings. I love the idea of making your own grill, your own. First off, I wish you safe travels! Upon your return, my recommendation would be to start a restoration/rehab thread and put up lots of pictures! Once you’re safely home, we can discuss further.

I agree about the red. I feel the red was the iconic Weber gas grill. Glad I’ve got a few of those. I’d be interested to know if they have production numbers or a rough idea of which their most popular color is/was.
I know you aren't the only one that feels that way about the red lids. I've always considered black to be the classic Weber color on both the kettle and the gas grill. I'm also positive that black has been the dominant color for both over the years. The other colors are nice too, but black is still number one.

Yah, you might get lucky with someone looking for a NG grill. While there isn't a huge customer base for them, there isn't a huge supply either. Should be an easy conversion if it doesn't sell right away.

It's great when the wood is still in good enough condition that it can be refinished, but that's just not going to work all the time. Either way, the wood adds another layer of craftsmanship to a grill project.
I agree and it's my favorite part either way. Wether I start from scratch or refinish original wood if it's in excellent condition.
That layer of craftsmanship can make all the difference.
I'm not looking for the easiest fastest way to restore a grill. I want something special that I can be proud of accomplishing.
