Are the mica lids sparkly like a metallic paint?
I'm just curious because the black lid on my first year first generation 1985 Genesis 2 is like that and it's different than all my other black lids. I figured it was just an early black lid thing?

Mica was the old school term for metallic, at least in the auto industry. So I would assume it means the same.

They gray lid I had, in the Weber schematics page is listed as a Black Mica

I have a mica grey and a mica blue. Just haven't done anything with them yet.

Im going to build a full time griddle next but haven't decided if I want to use the larger 3000 frame or a 1000 frame.

Ya I actually thought something was wrong with it at 1st but we had a discussion here about it at some point. The blue is not as deep as the regular blue lid and some here thought at first it had the weber fade but we figured out it was a mica blue.

Check your lid on the new one you just picked up. I think that may have some sparkle to it as well.

I never looked closely at my Genesis blue lid

Note this is going into an SSP frame this winter.
