I know there are collectors here

I know many of the fellow members here are collectors. Some with some pretty eclectic collections. I don't think I've seen anyone collecting these. But here is a collection I came across

Funny, I was just reading about the Zippo museum here in PA a few days ago. I think the local news did a story on it and it caught my attention.

I am a bit of a pocket knife collector, nothing super expensive, just ones that I like, I also am fond of a lot of John Wayne
“Stuff”
Enamelware cups, toothpick holders, a few JW Case pocket knives, that kind of thing.
“I collect blonds and bottles too” Philip Marlowe (Bogart in “The Big Sleep”)

So folks don't have to click or in case the ad gets deleted, this is about lighters. I had about 1/2 dozen and sold some and gave away others. I decided not to "collect" things any more;-)

These are interesting. The green logo and Nike-like swoosh represent True and Newport cigarettes. I worked at the company that made those. That company was sold and no longer exists, but the brands do and are made by another company now. There is an interesting documentary on Zippo lighters. The sound of opening and closing the lighter is an important characteristic to the brand.

Does this ever bring back memories! My wife bought me an ornate Zippo back in the 70s and I accidentally left it in a hotel room in Ohio. It was during the time when butane lighters were taking over the market and I replaced it with a Scripto lighter with the clear tank and a pair of dice. Disposable lighters then became so cheap that you never needed to worry about refilling or losing them. Of course, once you quit smoking, the need for a lighter pretty much goes away with the habit. I wish I could find a picture of that old Zippo, though.
