How to light 2 briquettes

So I'm going to smoke some cheese this weekend. After reading the input from many readers on the subject I've decided to use 5 KBB in my WSM 22. Here's my question, "How do you light 2 briquettes?" I'm thinking long handled tongs and a propane torch. Thank you.

Take your charcoal grate and balance it between the smoker & your chimney (just lay the grate on top of them & it'll stay). Then use the propane torch to light the charcoal & the wood from the bottom. That way, you don't have to hold the tongs. The grate won't be hot since you only have 2-3 coals so just pick the whole grate up & set it back in the smoker. I smoke cheese 3-4 times a year and always use 3 coals & 1 piece of wood. Comes out perfect every time. Good luck!!

Sounds like a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion.

I light a Weber fire starter cube on the charcoal grate of my mini WSM. Then I set my mini chimney over it and carefully place the two briquettes one at a time in the middle of the chimney. Works great.

Why not just put two or three briquettes in the chimney and start them the same way you normally would (newspaper, paper towel, starter cube etc....) ?

turn your chimney upside down - and put the lighter in the bottom of the cone...
then add coals on top....voila...

i lke like this idea the best. Seems the simplest. I've never lit 2 briqs but this works well for the small amounts I sometimes use. Just my 2 cents.

Would you happen to have a gasser with a side burner??? That is how I've started briqs when using the snake method.

fire up a regular bank of coal for a cook on one pit. take two lit coals from that bank to the other pit where youre smoking the cheese. you win both ways bro.

don't lift the lid...
