Hi my name's Chuck and I'm a Weber-holic

So I figured I wanted to make some good Que after watching some un-named BBQ shows on TV and decided to do some researching...

figured I'd build a reverse offset trailer from a 250 gallon propane tank I have laying around...well, my mom and dad decided they want me to BBQ some ribs for a 4th of July bash they're having at their house this year...the R/O trailer is not going to be done by then so I had to come up with a plan B...

I wanted something that was a quality product so I started looking into the WSMs...came across this site and I was hooked...

Went to Lowe's and picked up an 18.5 WSM and some charcoal Memorial Day weekend past...

Then I started looking around the forum here and starting thinking about how much of a piece of crap my grill was...so I started searching craigslist and found this sweet little Genesis E-310 and picked it up today...

So, I'm officially addicted...I keep looking on craigslist for other WSMs to pick up and for older Weber gassers to pick up and restore

I'm in the same boat. I found an 18.5 silver on CL for almost free. I added a few bucks to make it a Gold, and now I can't stop looking for other great Weber scores.

This one's going to be my son's when he get's out of the Navy, so I'm going to have to find an 18.5 for me. I like having the smaller size for doing appetizers.

How do you convert a silver to a gold?

First thing I did was replaced the cooking grate to one with wings.
Next I added the ash can basket instead of the ash dish that the silver has. (I found this on Amazon. It was the last one, but I'm wondering if you could order it directly from Weber.)
Then I replaced the handle with the one that holds the tools. (done after this picture)
Lastly I added the charcoal rails so I can easily cook indirect.

I wish that Weber still sold the 18.5 gold. Now that I've used this a few times I'm going to want one for myself after my boy gets this one.

Welcome Chuck, I did the same thing, wanted good bbq so I was going to make a offset cooker when I found this site, got and 18 WSM and it does such a good job that I never did make the offset cooker.
