Help with lid restoration

Hey guys. Need some help on restoring this lid. I’ve already done the steel wool and simple green and got most of it to look great except this section on the top. Can someone tell me if there are other techniques or if I’m **** out of luck with this lid and have to find another.

That lid is shot. That is one of the worst cases of Weber fade I have seen. Just find a donor grill and move on. You will NEVER get that lid looking good.

I am afraid you have a lid with what we here call "The dreaded fade." Unfortunately, it is within the porcelain itself, and no amount of scrubbing, buffing, etc. will do anything about it. This problem is the worst with black hoods and happens on kettle grills as well. Best bet is to keep looking for another "donor" grill that has a better hood or maybe buy one from someone here close enough for you to pick it up.

Ant: I would consider a different color. The other colors don't seem to suffer the Weber fade nearly as much. But, if Black is your thing, just keep looking. In the mean time, that lid you have will work as good as any other lid.

Gotcha. I have a WSM and a kettle in black so I was going with it to match the others lol

I’m in north jersey and have a black hood from a silver b if you need. No endcap though

Will a silver B fit my genesis 2000?

Yes, but your end caps may not fit his lid. But a Silver B with matching end caps will fit your 2000.

silver a ends won’t fit a b. I have that silver b lid but it’s missing one end.

message me what else you need. I believe I have a 1000 I might get rid of.

Is there a bit difference between the lids other than looks? Is one lid higher than the other?

I had a Silver A, and really liked the lid, but switched to Genesis 1000. I'd be interested in switching if it's compatible.

The early silver b lids are basically the exact same as the Genesis 1000 lids. Later, like 2004-2005 they made them more rounded on top. But regardless, they are all still interchangeable.
