Wednesday, March 23 through Monday, March 28th, buy a blue or yellow ThermoPop for $24.50 (normally $35.00) and 100% of the purchase price will go to support World Central Kitchen. As a ThermoWorks affiliate, I am proud to support this effort and receive no compensation from this promotion.

ThermoWorks says:

"Since the conflict began in Ukraine, many of our employees and customers have asked us for ideas on ways to help. Many wish to donate but want to make sure their contributions reach those that need it most.

"Chef José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen are already in Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, and into Ukraine itself and have served to date over two million meals to the millions of Ukrainian refugees fleeing for safety.

"Every purchase supports their mission to be “first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.”

In for 2! Thanks for the opportunity to help, Chris (and thanks, ThermoWorks, and everyone else involved it this project!)

Looking at what Thermoworks says, it seems clear that they have had a long relationship with World Central Kitchen. That makes me feel confident that this is a worthy recipient of donations. To their credit, Thermoworks also supports Operation BBQ Relief. I finally broke down and bought a Thermapen One and went with the special edition that helps support this good organization who helps feed people after disasters; I also have supported it directly.

I applaud Thermoworks for helping these organizations. (I admit it was also nice to get a Thermapen One with the Oper BBQ Relief graphics printed on it that, to me, liven up its otherwise bland look!)

My partner is planning a benefit at which 16 musical acts will be performing, and she did hours of research to determine a trustworthy organization to send the proceeds to. She came up with World Central Kitchen; 100% of donations go toward feeding refugees. (If anyone in south central Connecticut is interested in attending this event on April 24, PM me and I’ll pass along details.)

Anyone interested in learning more about World Central Kitchen can visit their website:

They have served food to those in need all over the world, including in Texas after the February 2021 big freeze, in Kentucky and Southern Illinois after the devastating December 2021 tornado, and more than 40 million meals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

World Central Kitchen gets a 100/100 rating from Charity Navigator--they say, "Give with confidence."

From the WCK website:

"WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. We build resilient food systems with locally led solutions."

FOUNDER AND CHIEF FEEDING OFFICER

Chef José Andrés

Chef José Andrés, born and trained in Spain, moved to the US at age 21. He soon settled in Washington, DC, and began volunteering at DC Central Kitchen, where he started to think big about philanthropy. Over the course of his career as a chef and restaurateur, he saw the role of cooks – and the power of food – to change the world. This path inspired José to found World Central Kitchen in 2010 after a devastating earthquake in Haiti, with the support of his wife Patricia, as well as his business partner Rob Wilder and his wife Robin. Since then, he’s pursued a mission to fulfill the words of John Steinbeck: “Wherever there’s a fight so that hungry people may eat … we’ll be there.”
