I have, sort of. I used a bone in butt because they're common and cheap in NC. And did it outdoors. 275F on the smoker with hickory for a couple hours, then wrapped and finished on the grill as instructed. Everyone loved it.

Yes, just a little smoke for a couple hours, then followed the recipe as written.
