Happy Father's Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. We celebrated a day early so that Sunday could be a relaxing day not filled with a lot of food prep. Grilled an Iberico pork shoulder steak and a smallish sirloin. We first had Iberico pork at a restaurant in Asheville, NC and it was excellent. Both cuts were seasoned simply with salt and course pepper, finished with a brushing of melted butter. On the side was a manchego Mac & cheese and roasted broccoli. Both meats were topped with a homemade chimichurri. I don’t think I would have changed a thing, except I overcooked the sirloin a little. Hope you all have a great day!

To finish the night, I was gifted a Fender electric acoustical guitar. I’ve been wanting to learn to play and my wife and son made it possible.

Play a little every day and you will be fine! I used to sell guitars and that was one of my “first player” strategies! Several became quite good! The more you do the more you will learn. Get the tune in your head then, teach your hands where to go!
Have a ball!

Happy Father's Day, Todd! Love that Secreto. One of my favorite proteins to cook.

Sweet guitar. That's a great gift.

Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to getting past the finger soreness, but I know it will pass.

Happy Father's Day to all!

Got calls from both daughters this AM, one in N. Carolina and the other in Denver, both away from their homes in Reno and Chicago, respectively. Miriam was going to take me out to lunch at our local Brew Pub, but we decided to wait 'til tomorrow when they won't be crowded.

Pulled a rack of spares out of the freezer and they're thawing in the sink. Just filled my spritzing bottle with the juice from an jar of pickled Jalapeños. Will use SPG on the ribs, cook at 275, no wrap, with post oak pellets and a smoke tube filled with the same, spritzing as needed after the first hour. Once they're about done, will glaze with homemade hot honey and rest down to ~150 before cutting into them. Will whip up a batch of slaw once I get the ribs on. Heat up some already cooked pinto beans with jalapeños and ground beef and supper will be ready. Will post some pics if I remember.

Just put on the grill.

Probe tender in 3 1/2 hours. Slathered in hot honey, wrapped and will rest for 30 minutes before cutting into them .

All plated up and ready to eat. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

It will. Even after not playing with my buddies for extended periods I still some slight residual calluses so, once you’ve abused your left hand fingertips for a few years, they will “remember” have fun, and always remember it’s called “Playing” music!
