Had to try this, pizza in a slow cooker.

Ran across a recipe for pizza in a slow cooker and just had to try it. Barb picked up some free pizza dough at Safeway where she works. So we decided to give it a shot.
We used our casserole slow cooker.
Placed the dough in the bottom and spread it out. Used some three cheese Trader Joes pasta sauce. sautéed some bell pepper and onion added peperoni and cooked Italian sausage and some Italian seasoning. Covered with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
Cooked on low for 3 1/2 hours.
Have to admit it was a pretty good deep dish pizza, crust was deeply browned and very tasty.
Going to do a few tweaks and it will be a keeper for those cold windy days.

I have a friend that has done that, never shared with me but, I’d heard of the technique. That looks pretty good!

But why?

I suppose you could use it to do food prep in advance, go out, and then come back later to your pizza almost done...but when else (or why else) would you do it this way? I am all for different food prep methods when they gain you something in return, but I am not seeing the benefit here...

You could also just toss it all in a pan, throw in the oven, and have it done in 20 min...(ie..the regular Chicago Deep Dish way). We did this last night...

Because we could and why not. Always fun to try something new and we actually preferred the texture over an oven cooked pizza.
Also, when summer arrives no need to heat up the house with the oven on especially in the monsoon season.

Only reason was Barb gets freebies from Safeway and one was their fresh made pizza dough, we didn't want to waste it, so we used it instead just to try it.
