Great General Cleaner for WSM

Dont know if this has been discussed before but there is a great and cheap cleaner out there for the smokers that wont harm aluminum or etch the finish. I have been using a cleaner from the Dollar Stores called " Awesome" and its a yellow colored cleaner for yrs. They also now have a orange cleaner version of it. I had always used it on outside stuff and it works great on pretty much anything.

Today after smoking jerky I had the racks with the nice brown hue to them. I sprayed the grates with this stuff and within 10 seconds I had brown nasty stuff dripping off. Took a soft brush to it and sprayed it some more and all the greasy smoke and food coating was gone. Best part its only a $1.00 and a larger refill bottle is also a $1.00. It also cleaned the brown soot off the top vent where I had a thermometer sticking in it with no scrubbing at all. Don't know why I didn't try it before on the grill and WSM knowing how well it worked on other stuff...

This is the stuff...

I use it to clean my smokers and stuff around the house.
I have been cleaned stains on clothes before loading in to the washer.

This stuff works good.

Awesome is the best dollar you can spend for cleaning lol weve been using that stuff for many many years.

I know. I have been using it for yrs on things from house stuff to mowers, wheels and etc. Just never tried it on grills/smoker till today and was impressed on how it tackled that too..

Mike yes it's a great cleaner... I used it in my steam cleaner for my mom & dad's carpet and there rug's looked brand new .

I tried something a while back that was supposed to be specifically for cleaning grills. It smelled like orange juice, and was just about as effective. I'll give Awesome a try, thanks for the information.

Just got some today and it might just compel me to say bye bye to Formula 409 that I've used all of my life. ;0

The Awesome cleaner smells acid based. Works great on grease and oil but you have to be little careful with what you use it on.

Not like you think.

Here is the MSD for it. With a rating of 1 on Hazard and Health...Its less dangerous to you than Mean Green and especially other grill cleaners but I wouldn't drink it...has a form of Lye in it...

I generally mix/dilute it as they show on the label but will use full strength on stubborn stains. Like others I have used it on many items and never an issue so far. It does streak up glass in this form though.

Auto Engine Straight,

Nicotine Buildup Straight,

Interesting, we were just sitting around talking a couple days ago about how smoking in the house (or hotels) is a cleaning nightmare. Apparently about as hard as cleaning your engine.

I used this on a neighbors house when I painted for her ( Single older lady ). She is a in the house smoker and all her stuff was yellowed and nicotine coated. I sprayed this stuff on her air vents and registers to clean them and it was a immediate yellow/brown residue running off them. Kind of gross but it cleaned them up pretty good. Not sure on the engine being the same though as I have yet to try :) Kind of funny they are the same recommended strength...LOL

On the grill I start with about a 60/40 mix of cleaner/water and it seems to work okay. You could try a little more cleaner and less water as you go and see what works for you if the initial mix doesn't work.
