Gold Kettle on eBay

No way that's a factory gold finish, look at all those scratches. Hilarious that someone is paying $450+80 for that thing.
I might need to breakout some gold spray paint and let my 4 year old scratch it up with some nails, goldmine!
 
at 456 and counting. This might provide me some sort of entertainment during the last 5 minutes of the auction.
Ebay is notorious in protecting the buyer regardless if the seller post a final sale. Hopefully whoever buys this will keep it.

It IS a pretty old kettle based on the metal handles on BOTH the bowl and the lid - what our Weber Kettle Club friends call an “MLH.” Weber did some oddball stuff back in those days. I would hesitate to say authoritatively that it is not one of those items. I will admit it seems more likely that someone years ago had access to gold leafing and got carried away. Even in a regular color that grill would still draw some interest.
 
Still not 100% convinced it is not original. I need to see what the experts at WKC think. If it is original then while it may be an insane price, it is not stupidity.
 
WKC reporting that it indeed is a one of kind, straight from Weber that sat in the front office of the Arlington Heights office, for years and years. That tidbit should have just tripled its value.
