Genesis Platinum B/C

I picture a SS Redhead with all black trim, including firebox and endcaps, retrofitted with wood tables, either slats or solid with the SS inserts.

I'd also like to know if anybody has had any luck dying those grey tables? A blackout Redhead Platinum!

If my memory serves me properly, Bruce has tried to dye the thermoset stuff as well as the durawood. None of it took the dye.

That is true, cody, but i'm not sure about the tables on a platinum. They are not really thermoset

We need a broken Platinum table or a piece of one. It could end up in one of Bruce's dye batches as a test! With black tables we could call it the Aussie edition.

Picked up a free one today.
She is looking pretty dirty, what do yall think will she clean up?

You have the basis for a wonderful restoration. I believe that this was one of last "made in the USA" grills offered by Weber. The parts should still be available from several sources such as Grill Stuff. Good luck to you in your restoration efforts.

So what's the plan for this grill, just adding it to the collection?
Yes, adding it to the collection.
I have picked up a few before finally finding my second platinum I have always coveted.
Now that I have all the grills I want, I can work on each hoping to complete some.
I may have to condense the collection down a little.
The 97 1000 is on the back burner and may be the odd one out of the collection, but I plan on repurposing the red lid from it to this platinum.
Because I took so long to find the 2nd platinum for my collection I picked up a 2-burner Silver A. I am undecided if should keep that one now.
I would like to get down to either 3 or 4 grills and stay with that.
I think I am going to sell the Q200 now that I have the Silver A.
Once I get this Platinum to where I want it. I think I am going to have to commission a welder to do the welds on the shelves of both of my platinum grills to eliminate all the dropsies. Then I will be solid.

So according to Bruce, the welds on the frame extensions are what break on these? Yes, that would be important to get fixed in my book. I really like the Genesis Gold C that I have and it is 100% rust free and has no broken welds to deal with. Personally, I'm going to take a pass on the Platinum model unless one falls in my lap. It seems to be a lot more work than what I have for little to no gain.

If you can find a smaller welding shop, I don’t think it would be as much as you may think. For a welder to put down 8 welds is pretty quick. 4 beads on the frame extension, and 4 on the legs.

What I would recommend since you have two, is to strip one down to a bare frame, and then take it to have them look at it.

If you look around on sites like Next Door app, Marketplace and such. Search for welders (the person not the equipment), I found a couple really good guys I keep in my "Trades" folder on my contact list (almost said "Rolodex") but I am sure our junior (not boomer or older) members would not know what I meant :D Anyway I've had some beautiful repairs done by one guy in particular. And for very reasonable pricing

Good call Larry. There are lots of guys that weld on the side and are happy to do a small job for a small fee. I see adds on FB MP and other places every so often.
