Alright, my first restoration is now underway. Appreciate all the help you've guys given me so far, and sorry for all the questions on the old threads.

Everything came apart pretty easily, the back left burner was pretty stuck in there.

I also have no idea how to get the swing table off, so I just loosened the durawood slats until it let go of the bar.

Do you think this ignitor should be replaced? It works, but not sure if that wear says it needs a new one.

I don't know if these are called "Tank Scales" back in the 90's, but do you think this'll clean up okay? Any need to replace it?

Working on ordering new Z-Bars, Flavorizer Bars, and Grates. Then to Lowe's for cedar slats.

Tomorrow begins the deep clean. Got the wire cup brush, 0000 steel wool, simple green, and the pressure washer.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Was that scale on this grill you're refurbing? If so it was actually likely an LP to begin with.

Just be careful with the pressure washer. Let it rip on the cookbox, but not on the porcelain. Seen many stories where people pressure wash a lid and it can pop the porcelain off.

I’d do a new igniter kit for $8-12 on amazon.

Do you want to do wood for it? Otherwise that durawood is very reusable. Cleans up well. Unless it’s burnt or melted.

I’ve seen it posted more on kettle pages than gas. My brother did it once too, on a kettle bowl he found curbside.
My guess is the porcelain was already compromised along with the metal under it. I've hit the porcelain with some pretty nasty pressure and never had an issue. Heck I didn't even knock the paint off my Q320

Mid-week update:

Continued to search for a sandblasting service, but was having no luck. Latest quote was $200 for the exterior of the cook box. Insanity.

Went out and got an angle grinder and wire cup brush for $20 from Harbor Freight.

This is a LOT of work, but it is doing the job.

After doing the side and the first section of the back, I heard back from a family friend that said he'd do the cook box and lid end caps for $50.

So, I will be dropping off with him this week.

Also got my cedar lid handle from Mike! Excited to see how that comes to life with some stain.

I've refurbished several of those and that one doesn't look too bad. You can't buy a new one like it anyway unless you don't mind the newer style on your grill.View attachment 112955View attachment 112956
Steve, have a question for you.

I'm going to be buying the z-bars from RCplane, but, what did you do about the z-bars that connect to the swing arm? Those are a totally different shape/part, does he make those as well?

As Jon mentioned, he does. He didn't though when I restored that grill so I reused the original ones as they were still in good shape.
