Genesis Jr Restoration

Other than Marketplace, it seems like the rest of FB isn't worth a hoot, and scammers thrive! Unbelievable that things like this exist, but scammers seem to be on the rise. Can't be too careful-don't know who lurks behind that internet mask! Glad it was taken down-I can attest to that Jr as I have seen it with my own eyes and know who really restored it!

It is a shame that FB Marketplace bulldozed everyone else out of the market. OfferUp may not have been perfect but it was leagues ahead of FBM. OfferUp is barely hanging on now where I live.

I can't get OfferUp to work for me at all. I pull it up, set my zip code area to search and I get everything but my area. Useless so I'm stuck relying on MarketPlace and or FleaBay of which I pretty much dislike both

Yep, FB used not only it's huge financial assets to build and promote FB MP, but they already had a monstrous membership with just the main social media app. That is where they had the real advantage. The smaller Buy/sell/trade sites were forced to build their membership from scratch and that was tough with FB MP crowding them out before they could gain a solid footing.

Yeah pretty sad the world we live in. Sometimes it's hard not to get hardened by the evil, greed, theft...that's out there. I don't want it to change me. Yes I want to be well aware of what's out there but I don't want to stop helping people in need. Sad that scammers ruin it for everyone. Eventually most people don't want to help anybody anymore and I can't blame them considering the world we live in.

Question:

Should I be upset or should I be flattered that somebody stole credit for my restoration?? Have any of you had this??

A good friend of mine Greg messaged me this morning and said isn't this your restoration? I'm not a part of this Facebook group and unable to respond without joining. If any of you are a part of this Facebook group please feel free to comment on it.

You can be flattered if you want, but I think I would be mad as all get out!
I don't even understand why someone would do something like that.

I buy and sell on Facebook marketplace and offer up pretty equally. I don't list anything on Craigslist, but I do look at it for buying grills. I think a lot of people cross post items on Facebook and offer up. I will find some unique listings on Craigslist though, and I do find it to be the quickest to navigate through.
I’ve had some good finds on CL. And I agree it’s much more navigable than FB MP. On FB often times the first results are nowhere near me. So I get excited and then see it’s something in Rockford and get let-down.

Yah, that bothers me sooo much too. I used to sit there and think: How in the heck can an outfit like FB not be able to create a more accurate search routine. I have come to realize that it is by design. They are feeding you listings that they want you to see even though it is not what you are looking for. Exactly why they favor certain listings over others, I don't know for sure. But they certainly could make the results much more accurate if they really wanted to.

I search for my zip code and a radius of 60 miles. I get stuff from Chicago and Minneapolis in the results. I am forced to search using the "Suggested" category because if I search for "Closest First", I get unrelated listings such as golf clubs and paving bricks and blenders dominating my results. That is what I mean. If they would simply allow you to search the "Suggested" results and then order them by "Distance" it would be a way better system and such an easy fix.

Well, I hate doing anything on my phone. I use my computer almost exclusively for FB and stuff like that. I even text on my computer most of the time.

Yeah, on the puter you cannot make it search by a defined area no matter what you do. You can try in the criteria initiating the search by pickup only. I find that helps otherwise it is useless

I agree with Bruce that FB could make Marketplace work way better if they wanted to. If I do a search for Weber, the stuff I see should have the word Weber in it at least somewhere...

I know FB modifies the results based on past usage as well. I search for other totally unrelated items regularly and I always get a couple "WEBERS" mixed in. CL has a decent search engine except that scammers have learned how to manipulate it by including pages of words in their adds that have nothing to do with their add and they can change the font in the HTML for the add to make the extra words the same as the back ground so you don't even see them in the add.

Bruce is right-it is by design, everything they do is by design with a purpose. I don't have as much latitude on the phone either as I do on the computer, and I limit the searches to low miles and still get out to 30 or so. A wide area I think just invites trouble. BTW-OfferUp still works fine out here, but you just have to be more diligent in setting up the searches.
