Maybe. I pressure washed holes in one once. Unless the old porcelain can be removed in a really gentle way you may be asking for bigger problems. A lot of times those big drip trays are already rusty and the only thing holding them together is that porcelain coating.Just to plant a thought..... If you are going to get the lid re-porcelained, you may want to consider doing the drip tray too to get some extended life out of it. Just a bit of forward thinking...

Edit: I think the newer blue is deeper than the older blue but it is hard to tell.
