Genesis 1 Restoration: Reassembly

On another note, I also suggest using quality drill bits to actually drill out the screw or bolt after you use the centering bit. If you use cheap ones, you likely will wind up braking cheap ones off inside the hole. The key is to take it slow and let the bit do the work.

Thanks guys. I have a cook box with a twisted off screw on the bottom drip tray rail. I need to fix that before I send it out for blasting. I will use the bits I currently have, but I will likely pick up the HF ones or the other Amazon ones for future use.

Do you re-tap the whole after you drill it out like that?

On that, no, I would not. I would just use a screw that fits, but not real tight. A self tapping screw would be a good solution. But be sure to put a drop of oil on the screw before you screw it in.

I need to go out an scrape out the inside of a lid, then I will probably try to tackle my sheared off screw.

Nope, just drill it out slightly large than the bolt size and use a nut on one side. Of course I still then use stainless hardware and NeverSeize (I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy) :D

Anti Seize is used to prevent O2 sensors from welding themselves in to catalytic converters so I really doubt a grill will get hotter than a glowing red exhaust pipe. So nothing to worry about

I think there are different types as well. I used aluminum or silver or whatever. I think there is copper too. I think those are just colors and not meant to be used on the metals exclusively. Do a little research before you just buy "anti-sieze".

I have always bought the good old plain silver one. Use it everywhere. Works fine. I don't worry the color

That is what I have. I haven't used it in a couple years though. I gave up using it on my rehabs.

Yah, and even if I do, I will just deal with it like I did the first time. LOL

I figure if the new owner gets another 20 years out if it, it might be time to retire the grill.

Something I haven't asked, because all the parts were salvaged. But if I wanted new ones, where does one find some of the "little parts"? The sheet metal nuts for the end caps, the emblem push-on clips, wheel/axle clips? Maybe even the rubber tip for the scale rod?

Ace Hardware has all that little random stuff

Thanks.
I've heard Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks. Reckon I'll check them out :)

They also have the axle nuts and those tin nuts for the end caps. But, if those tin nuts came off undamaged, id reuse them. Just give them a quick mist of high heat black.
