I never have to remove them but I do have to take the manifold off on my Genesis S330 with n/s burners.

Yep. That worked. Weber really should modify their instructions. I am sure a lot of people shred those screws.

Done. Cleaned my valves too so now my buttons actually pop back out.

Yep, you were right. The manifold needs to be removed to get the burners out.
