I was recently at a party for a couple in my church, and a gentleman and his wife had prepared the food. It was pork roast, clearly grilled in some fashion, and pretty good. I complimented the cooks, shared with them my story of smoking, and next thing you know I'm in luck!

I have run out of pecan wood for smoking and they had two pecan trees blown over in their yard last year, all of it cut up in a shed. They said I could have all I wanted! I picked up to big bins of limbs today! I see some free ribs in their near future!

If you don't have room to store all that pecan wood, I'll be glad to keep some of it at my house in Clemmons.

I agree that pecan is great and I also have a free supply. There are 2 pecan trees on my golf course and whenever they need trimming, the grounds superintendent gives me whatever I want.

Love me some pecan, especially when it's free. Great long-lasting smoke that goes on anything, and smaller temp spikes than oak or hickory.

Thanks friends! I do love pecan as it is a good, moderate flavor that doesn't overwhelm. I was so fortunate to meet this couple that was so friendly in conversation and then discover they have pecan wood to spare! Even when I picked it up they said, "The only problem with giving you this much (I got probably two bushels of limbs) is you won't be back to talk with us any time soon!" And this from a senior couple I'd only met for 10 minutes before that day.

This stash should last me a few years as I only use a couple of fist sized pieces in any smoke. Now I have to get back with my uncle to get some more apple wood while my luck is hot!
