Food for dogs - it can matter

We seem to have a lot of dog lovers in our on line community so I thought I should share this story. My family has a 13 year old Golden Retriever "Casey". He's had a pretty healthy and happy life but has had some food related issues. We were feeding him Iam's lamb and rice recipe for the first several years, but he was also having some seizures that the vet couldn't figure out. At first they were a few times a year, but then became more frequent. We started changing up his diet and when we put him on a white fish based dry food, all of the seizures stopped, obviously we were all thrilled!!

But, in the last few months Casey lost interest in eating the new miracle food. We tried soaking it in water, putting broth on it, and all sorts of things to motivate him but the best we could get was "meh, I'd rather just lay here". Then, his energy levels started dipping, and he started having even more issues getting off the floor and walking around. Then Anne (my lovely bride) bought a log of pet fresh, and we started using that. Suddenly, Casey was interested in eating again! After 3 or 4 days on the new diet (about a 1/4 lb of the "log" chopped fine, topped with a 1/2 cup of kibble per day, total), not only is he eating, but he has basically no issues getting off the floor, and is moving around a lot easier. You see this stuff on commercials. I wouldn't have believed it if I weren't living it.

Here's a photo of the log we're using in case you're interested. If your pup is having similar issues, I would recommend giving this a try.

Thanks for posting John!
Our 12 year old lab, Brooke, has been having similar issues with the not wanting to eat, getting up, and mobility. We'll give this a try.

Barb and I have had five purebred Golden Retrievers three of them were rescues and currently a Golden, Husky, Coyote mix rescue and a purebred black lab that was gifted to us. Both Whitney our rescue and Abby our Lab keep a smile on my face whenever they are near me.

Unfortunately Goldens are very susceptible to a variety of things due to their popularity and inbreeding. Cancer, seizers, joint problems, hip dysplasia, diabetes are common problems. The type of food you feed your dog can definitely have an effect on their health.
We know as we have spent a fortune dealing with all the things I've listed. One of the problems is there are so many designer dog foods out there that it's hard to know what's good and what isn't .
Sharing information like John has is a good start and a good veterinarian can guide you also.

John thats a product ive never seen. Great to hear the pooch is doing better. I know this sounds nuts but I watch sales and buy chicken at .39 cents a pound a couple of times a month. I will pan fry/steam with a little water for the pooch shread and throw into the fridge. He gets about a cups worth sprinkled into 2 cups of his dry once daily. We have had great luck with Diamond naturals brand dog food. Read the label its not bad stuff and reasonable.

Diamond makes Kirkland brand for Costco.
Kirkland/Diamond had high marks when I researched dog food when we first got Brooke.
It's the only food she's had from puppy, to adult, to mature type.

Ive heard the same but never read the label at costco. I wonder if the price is that much cheaper. Believe it or not I buy the Diamonds from Amazon.

Since this is a pooch string I couldnt help myself. I swear he is half deer and half cat. Great rescue dog.

Our dachshund Daisy has a sensitive stomach. She and Levi get Purina One sensitive system dry food.
Sometimes her stomach acts up, and we give her the same brand wet food over the course of a few days.
Does the trick!
