Father's Day Club Steaks, Hasselbacks

A good day: slept late, and my honey made me a Dutch baby for breakfast (oven baked eggy pancake with strawberries, whipped cream, and little Nova Scotia maple syrup).

Janelle worked in the garden most of the day. We have too much shade, so the veggies always run a bit late here. Chinese cabbage, radish, string beans, snap peas, beets, shallots, onions, fingerling potatoes, okra, Thai and lemon basil, sundry peppers, herbs, tomatoes, and the perennial rhubarb. You'll just have to take my word for it.

I power-washed the deck last weekend, and put the waterproofing on today. I think another coat on the floor would do it for this season.

Picked these up yesterday.

Hasselback potatoes on early. Nearly done, so on go the steaks.

Plated, along with rosemary/garlic/shallot green beans and a mesclun salad mix from the garden (tomatoes from the store).

Steak came out great. I should have let the potatoes cook longer indirectly, but I was hungry!

I had to check myself. "Small steak from the front of the short loin of beef." a.k.a. a Delmonico steak.

Everything looks great and the steak is cooked perfect!! I need to try those hasselback taters. How long does it take to cook them? It seems like everybody that cooks them say they should have left them on a little longer.

John, the hasselbacks are great. I basted a couple times with EVOO, but kept them simple. Some recipes for them add garlic, bread crumbs, etc. Your choice. Test for fork tender -- what can I say? I knew mine were a little underdone... but went with it.
Bob, are you kidding? I still have the rest of that retaining wall to finish!
