Exciting times

Yes, I agree with all of these comments. Delighted to see the promise in my lifetime (there may be hope for us humans yet), but not expecting to be around to see the fruit.

At this time it frankly means very little other than a headline grab. In the future? Who knows.

The energy production took place in less time than it takes for light to travel one inch...

It's amazing to me that science can even time something that happens that fast.

I wonder if it uses dilythium crystals. "More power Scotty"
Just remember “But Captain, I can’t change the laws of physics!”
As Lew said, the proof of concept is really exciting though! It will not happen in my lifetime but, I hope it does indeed change the way we look at the future.

I've been hearing for 40+ years that this is just around the corner. I'm still hoping to see a viable commercial fusion reactor in service in my lifetime.

In the meantime, sign up for one of these atomic tours! I know, it's fission, not fusion, but it's only $3. Don't forget your sunglasses and sunblock.
