When I read your opening comment, I thought "what, are they going to hook up a hose to the rear end ie: gas and let it go into a balloon for containment?".

Hey! The Gas don't get much more "natural" than that....

Actually - on a smaller scale, even in the 1960's similar stuff was working.
I know that our local Sewage Treatment Plant in my hometown recovered Methane from the digester, and used it to run a generator that provided most of the Electricity needed to run the plant. In that way, the treatment plant was largely self-sufficient from an energy standpoint.
