I'm going to try lump coal for the first time (1st time in my WSM that is) tomorrow, and was wondering if I can just dump a lit chimney full on top of unlit lump in the charcoal ring?
I know lump burns up faster than briquettes, but I figured since I am only smoking a chicken and country ribs, they won't take a very long time like a Pork Butt or Brisket.
I always use Lump to start the fire in my Klose pit. 2 chimneys full always does the trick. My firebox is 24" x 24", so 2 chimneys seems to work better than just one.
