Obviously mine have holes for inserts but to save money on inserts on a Weber Q with 6" wheels I painted the white wall on and then hand painted the black letters. Not ideal for a high level restoration but I was happy with the results for this grill that I donated.

My grills I donate I generally do at a level I would expect for my personal grills. At least as high as a grill I would sell or higher.

I'm happy to let someone else spend their money on those, I would have just bought them if they were reasonable rather than post them. Yes, you can do better for a lot less money if you know what you're doing.

@LMichaels if I was to build you a Genesis 2/3 to donate to you I would only do it if I could provide my highest level of work. Other wise I wouldn't be interested in doing it. If that makes sense.

I get it. I go through FAR more work when I rebuild a mixer than I need to and the customer expects. They're usually quite surprised. I know it's a "pride" thing and it's refreshing

Larry has a point, but I see your side too. I guess if I were going to donate a grill to someone I would just make sure it was in good working condition and somewhat clean. I don't think I could do an extra nice restoration on something and just give it away unless it was a gift for someone I care about. I won't cook on my own restorations though, so that probably colors my view on the subject.

That's out my way. Structo was another of the heavy well made US produced grills. Years ago, the gas and power company in Minneapolis was giving those away to special employees, for certain "milestones"
