Corned beef and cabbage !

Of course this is the best time of year to buy corned beef because of st Patricks day....$1.69 a pound or so.
This year I bought 3 cryo packed point cut corned beefs. 2 of them went into our annual st Patricks day corned beef n cabbage extravaganza and one I saved to smoke sometime next week.
For those of you who have never tried this kind of boiled dinner , don't think of it as soggy , bland or tasteless. When executed properly this is a savory , flavorful , delightful comfort food.
Sorry for the blurry pix , but they were done very hastily as our 9 guests were arriving.....
I won't get any style points for plating but this meal is just kind of an Irish free for all....very casual.

Looks great Frank. I'll be putting my corned beef on at about 1:00 for a very similar meal. Never smoked a corned beef. How does that turn out?

Been wondering if they'd go on sale after today or if they were already on sale. Going to swing by Wallyworld after work today to see how much they are and perhaps stock up. I always loved corned beef and cabbage myself.

Excellent. You might want to soak it overnight to cut down the salt , but it's really good on the smoker.

buck 69 a pound around here , benji. Don't see them much cheaper even after st paddys

Looking good! A lot of Reubens in your future.

I just got mine in the pot about 20 minutes ago. I cheated this year and purchased a Boar's Head corned beef brisket.

Thats something I've never eaten, oh sure I've had cornbeef and kraut but thats a totally differnt dish, begora it looks good and a HAPPY ST. PATTY"S to you.

I went slightly non traditional. Skipped the cabbage and went straight to reubens:

We cooked a corned beef brisket yesterday in the pressure cooker, ate it with cabbage, potatoes, and carrots. Tonight we had reubens. I wish briskets were $1.69/lb here, I think I paid about $2.39.

That looks great , robert.
I hear ya larry....this is the only time of year we see them that cheap , but they sell a trainload of them.

down here 'on sale' was 2.50/lb for point and 3.50/lb for flat

ended up getting a full packer for around 2.90/lb
