I'm cooking two whole chickens and two rack of ribs today but it supposed to pour. Will this affect anything? Is there anything special I need to do?

I'm expecting the same thing. I've been meaning to buy a patio umbrella to replace the one that broke in a big storm............ Expect a big temperature drop and a big mess to clean up. Oh well, it's just part of the hobby.

I have smoked in all kinds of weather and ended up with good results and interesting stories to share. If you can provide some sort of shelter for your WSM it will help. The rain will cool the dome temp and alter the cook times. I also find that due to the design of the joints in the WSM some water runs down the sides and ends up in the bottom of the smoker. The biggest problem is keeping the meat dry when I open the lid. Having an assistant hold an umbrella helps and adds to the fun.

Had a big storm roll through midway through my cook today. Once I heard the thunder coming I went and got the beach umbrella and fastened it to the deck rail and slid the wsm under it. It stayed dry through a heavy 30 minute down pour. Lost a little temp but I just jumped out and opened a couple of the vents a bit and she kept on rolling.

We got a thunderstorm during today's rib cook. The lid from my 22" kettle would have made a perfect umbrella for the WSM if I had a way to set it on there so it could not fall off.

Bought at Walmart, a beach type umbrella with a pointed end that I can push into the lawn. Works wonders.
