Cody's Corner of Random Rehabbing & Shenanigans

Thanks Jon! I’m not sure if you saw what I did to a couple of junk wheels to make the sanding of inserts easier.

I ground off the high areas adjacent to where the inserts set to make them easier to hold and to reach all parts of to sand down, especially helpful with the white walls with how fragile they can be!

I have since bored out the holes that the clips go in slightly to make them easier to pop in and out.
I have found that after painting I have had to bore out the holes as well. I have a huge stack of old wheels that maybe someday I will see how many can be restored and how many inserts I would need to make them complete. I am also interested in your sanding idea. Are you saying you sanded down wheel plastic and then sanded the whitewall inserts before removing and painting white?

Considering you can't buy those Wheels anymore. I bet if you repainted your old Wheels and put new inserts in them they could be sold in pairs for a decent amount. Maybe If you and Steve went in on that together.

I removed the inserts and ground off all the high edges of each wheel that were cracked or badly damaged. Then I put the inserts for sanding into the altered wheels. It allows some stability with the insert while leaving all edges exposed for easier sanding.

I won't pay that much either, but where did you see them listed out of curiosity?
Grill parts America. Even says they're in-stock. Which I find hard to believe. And I am not interested in spending the money to see if they still are.

They also show this listed further down on the page. It seems to be the same wheel, but for even more money.Screenshot_20250730-101257.png

I will try and post a pic of one that I have that came on a grill, but looks brand new. Even the insert is gray, and still has a factory sheen. I am pretty sure it was one I got that the frame was rotted badly but must've just sat under an overhang and never seen any sun til it was shunned to the curb

I always wondered about the ones that had gray inserts. I haven't come across too many of them, but they are out there.
